This short story had a lot of power and meaning. It showed how women in the before the women's rights movement felt with their partners. Louise, the protagonist, had everything she wanted from a house to a hard working husband. But the fact that she could do much killed her inside. Knowing that couldn't go to far away places alone, and if she did, everyone would look down on her. When she got the telegram about her husband's death, all she did was sit in front of her bedroom window and cry....tears of joy. That was awesome, that was the best part. She would say "Free! Body and soul free!" Till the twisted part came which was her husband. He came from work with no clue of what happened "innocently". Louise saw him she died of sadness while the others thought it was of joy... Her whole dream and life shattered before her eyes. That's amazing how feelings can play with people's minds. And the irony of it was how Louise was really crying of pain when seeing her husband while the others thought it was from joy of seeing her husband. I would have died as well if that happened to me because who would want to live after and great story ending horrible twisted and wrong...not me!

Good job...just a note: Louise is actually the sister-in-law. We never get the protagonists first name. She is identified only as Mrs. Mallard...another "symptom"?
