"The Necklace" by Guy de Maupaissant

Hardship, pain, and suffering. This story is one of those stories that kill people with hatred deep in the gut and mind. I hated the fact that this woman, Mme. Loisel, went through a lot of trouble with a cheap necklace which she lost think it was extremely expensive and waisted her whole life trying to get a necklace for the friend she borrowed the necklace from with out her noticing she got her a new one. I wanted to kill her! She didn't even ask her from the beginning how much was it when she was trying and previewing the necklace she wanted for the ball. And her husband. He is so retarded. He goes out looking for that necklace after it was Mme. Loisel's fault for not paying attention and flirting with other men. That's what she gets. And at the end after 10 years of paying back for the necklace she finds her friend, who lended her the necklace, looking pretty as always while Mme. Loisel looked like an old hag, there she asked her how much the necklace cost (Its Kind of LATE!). At that moment i just wanted to rip her up. The ironic part was that the really necklace she lost was only five hundred francs and the new one she bought to replace it was thirty- six thousand francs. This story really got me mad. But it was a good story because i felt the emotions it gave out. It was like a movie.

Be careful not to mix up the characters! Mme. Loisel is the one who lent the necklace, not the one who borrowed (her name is Mathilde). Otherwise, great analysis. I love your emotional response to the "ignorance" of the main characters.
